BACKGROUND

I am Jonathan Cottrell, graduate of Wingfield Highschool, father, family oriented, business owner and partner, fireman and active community member of ward 6 since 1999.  I have a deeply rooted passion for the community of South Jackson as a whole. I understand budgets, role of a councilman, city government, and how to effectively lead from every angle. I am Ward 6. You are ward 6. Together we are Ward 6 and now is the time to move forward from where we are, to where we are going.

MISSION

Residents of Ward 6, Jackson, MS, my name is Jonathan Cottrell, and I am running to be your next City Councilman for Ward 6.

I stand before you as someone who loves our community and believes in its incredible potential. I’ve seen firsthand the resilience, determination, and pride of the people of Ward 6. But I’ve also seen the challenges we face—challenges that require leadership, innovative solutions, and someone who will always listen to you and fight for what you need.

If elected as your City Councilman, I pledge to focus on the issues that matter most:

1. Strengthening Infrastructure: Our roads, drainage systems, and public facilities need significant improvement. No one should have to worry about unsafe streets or flooding after a storm. I will work tirelessly to secure funding and ensure our infrastructure is built to last. We will improve the system that keeps south jackson without water for weaks during freezing temps.

2. Public Safety: Everyone deserves to feel safe in their neighborhood. I will advocate for a stronger partnership between our communities and law enforcement, while also promoting community-based initiatives that address the root causes of crime.

3. Economic Development: Ward 6 has untapped potential for economic growth. By supporting local businesses, attracting new investments, and creating job opportunities, we can build a thriving local economy that benefits all residents.

4. Youth and Education Programs: Our children are our future, and they deserve access to quality education, extracurricular programs, and mentorship opportunities. I will work to expand resources for our schools and youth programs to give every child the chance to succeed.

5. Transparency and Accountability: Your voice matters. As your City Councilman, I will be accessible, responsive, and transparent. I will host regular town halls and keep you informed about every decision that impacts Ward 6.

This election is about progress, hope, and a shared vision for a brighter future. It’s about building a Ward 6 where every resident has the opportunity to thrive, where families can grow in a safe and supportive community, and where our collective voice drives positive change.

Together, we can make this vision a reality. But I can’t do it alone—I need your support, your ideas, and your votes. On Election Day, let’s come together to elect leadership that works for everyone. Let’s build a stronger, safer, and more prosperous Ward 6.

Thank you, and I look forward to working alongside each of you to make Ward 6 everything we know it can be.

Vote Jonathan Cottrell for City Councilman, Ward 6.
